Capra hircus (aegagrus)
DISTRIBUTION AND HABITAT
The Domestic Goats originate from the wild goats from southwest Asia and Eastern Europe. They can be found everywhere from the arctic tundra to the tropical forests, including the hot and cold deserts.
They are medium size animals and weigh 20 -35 kg. Their fur can be of a large range of color.
The rut begins in the late summer and lasts to the early winter. The gestation period varies between 145 – 152 days with the breed. Does have to 1 to 3 kids at one kidding. The weaning occurs when kids are 10 month old. Female goats sexually mature at 1 year age, males at 5 month old.
Goats are reputed to be willing to eat almost any vegetable, different grasses, shrubs, leaves, bark.
They live in social groups, up to 100 goats.
Life expectancy for goats is between 15-18 years.
